Frequently Asked Questions
Â
What is Christ-centered somatic therapy?
Christ-centered somatic therapy is a body-based approach to healing that combines nervous system regulation with the compassionate presence of Jesus. Instead of focusing only on thoughts or behavior, we support your body in releasing stress and trauma while inviting Jesus into your healing journey.
Â
How is this different from regular therapy?
Traditional therapy often focuses on talking and thinking (top-down). Somatic therapy is different—it starts with the body (bottom-up), where trauma is actually stored. We don’t just talk about your story—we help your body process and release what it’s been holding onto. And unlike clinical approaches that leave out faith, we make space for Jesus to be part of the process.
Â
Do I have to be a Christian to work with you?
No. While my approach is rooted in faith, I completely understand how trauma can not only separate us from ourselves but also from God. This is a safe and compassionate space no matter where you are in your faith journey.
Â
Will we be doing a lot of talking?
Not in the traditional sense. Somatic therapy uses gentle awareness, body-based practices, and guided noticing. Sometimes words are helpful, but this work often happens below the surface—through sensations, emotions, and the nervous system. Many clients say it’s more powerful than anything they’ve ever put into words.
Â
What if I’ve already done therapy and I’m still stuck?
That’s more common than you think. If you’ve been through therapy but still feel anxious, disconnected, reactive, or numb—your nervous system may need more than just cognitive insight. Somatic healing helps your body feel the safety and connection your mind has been craving.
Â
What does a session look like?
Every session is unique to you. We’ll typically begin by checking in with how your body is feeling, and I’ll guide you through gentle practices to notice, regulate, and support your nervous system. There’s space for processing emotions, inviting Jesus in, and finding what your body needs most in that moment.
Â
What if I’ve experienced trauma I don’t remember clearly?
That’s okay! You don’t need to remember everything to heal. Somatic therapy focuses on what your body is carrying right now—not forcing you to relive the past. We move at a pace your nervous system can handle, with safety and compassion always at the center.
Â
Can this help with anxiety, depression, or anger?
Absolutely! Many people experience anxiety, depression, rage, emotional shutdown, or chronic stress as symptoms of nervous system dysregulation. Somatic healing doesn’t try to “fix” those symptoms—it helps your body heal what’s underneath them.
Â
Are Sessions Virtual?
Yes! I offer online sessions, and somatic work is highly effective in a virtual setting. Many clients find they feel more comfortable doing this work from the safety of their own space.
